Cues That Work Everywhere
Obedience is taught in three layers: learn it in quiet, practice it with mild distraction, then prove it in the real world. Short, upbeat reps keep your dog eager, and every level ends with a practical test — a café patio sit-stay, a trail recall, a crowded sidewalk heel.
- Sit, down, stay with duration and distance
- Recall that beats squirrels and smells
- Loose-leash walking without pulling
- Place, leave-it and polite greetings
Three Levels, Real Milestones
Foundations
Marker training, name response, sit, down and leash basics in a calm hall.
Intermediate
Stay with distance, heel past distractions, recall from play, café manners.
Advanced
Off-leash reliability, emergency stop, public-access polish and trick chains.
Proofing Days
Monthly field sessions at parks and markets to keep skills honest for life.
"Rocky dragged me down the street for two years. After intermediate obedience, my kid walks him. The heel work alone changed our lives."— Daniel Okafor, Alamo Heights · with Rocky the boxer
Dogs don't generalize well — "sit in the kitchen" and "sit at the park" are different skills to them. Classes systematically add distraction, distance and duration.
Most dogs reach a trustworthy recall in 3–4 months of consistent practice. We certify off-leash readiness with a formal test before you ever unclip.
Absolutely — our oldest graduate was 11. Older dogs often learn faster; they just need old habits patiently re-taught, which is exactly what foundations level does.
